Thursday 4th August – walk **** – Orwell Country Park – sunny and warm.

After two full days of windsurfing, we are in for a run of light wind days supposed to cooler but showed no sign of it today which was very warm again! Managed my exercises for the first time in a couple of days and we thought we would go for a walk as we have been out on our bikes lately. So, with lunch packed we drive over to the outskirts of Ipswich to another one of our favourites, Orwell Country Park. After parking we walk down through Bluebell woods now full of lovely ferns and we spotted some brilliant fungi growing on a log, we were surprised considering how dry it has been, early in the year too! You could smell the River Orwell before we reached it as the tide was low and the mud smelly but not over powering! It was nice and quiet as to walked towards the Orwell Bridge, just a few dog walkers and families with kids having fun playing in the mud! I soon spotted a plastic bottle so we got a bag out of the rucksack and in the end collected a bag full! We found a lovely spot in the shade of a tree with great views over to Freston tower enjoying our yummy chicken sandwich watching a few yachts out on the water in the light airs! Well rested we continue taking the path to the right past the small holding where we are meet by a hot sheep, followed by some chickens and ducks but the best bit was two piglets using every small tree/log as a scratching post, great fun watching them:) Then the Orwell Bridge and back to the carpark, it was very hot but there were some lovely blackberries which tasted wonderful after being heated in the sunshine:) The walk was only two miles but it felt much further in the heat!
